The San Ysidro – Tijuana trolley crossing expansion aims to create a binational multimodal transit center with an integrated fast track preclearance process. This innovative initiative would enhance the cross-border experience between the United States and Mexico by alleviating border congestion and improving the quality of life for border communities. By optimizing the current border infrastructure, the trolley crossing expansion would boost mobility in San Ysidro and Tijuana, streamline cross-border travel, improve air quality, and strengthen social equity between the two nations.

This project would also be the first light rail/trolley initiative in the world to implement automated identification measures to facilitate access in a non-airport setting.
